Never a Top 10 hit, Ozzie and Harriet nevertheless graced the USA prime time schedule for well more than a decade, thanks to the crafty negotiating of Ozzie. Knowing that the fledgling ABC network was starving for 'star power' and had little funding, Big Band leader Ozzie, who had already established Ozzie and Harriet on network radio, made a 'deal in hell' with ABC where he would go with them, but only with a 10 year contract! Unlike NBC, who signed Milton Berle to a 'lifetime' contract but bought their way out, ABC stuck to the deal and ran this show despite the annual tepid (even for ABC) ratings.
