Andrew McMahon in the Wilderness - Canyon Moon [AUDIO]

  • 8 yıl önce
This song was written towards the end of my time in Topanga Canyon. I wanted to have something on the album with a real California flavor that spoke to the throwback qualities of living in the canyon. I remember going into the session with Kevin and Sam with California Dreamin as a reference track. Canyon moon is a story about a girl who loses herself in this idyllic, west coast fantasy world and has to get out. The theme of escape is one Ive always enjoyed writing about and there is something haunting about this track and its lack of resolution that I find really charming. \r

LYRICS\r
The sun ran out on a cold October\r
Somewhere under the canyon moon\r
Camera jammed in a slow exposure\r
California in her rear view\r
\r
She couldnt handle another season\r
Another ocean of fiction blue\r
Said a prayer to a dashboard Jesus,\r
Death Valley and worn out shoes\r
\r
Then the road turned into desert everywhere\r
The sun ran out on a cold October\r
She disappeared, she disappeared\r
\r
Take all your troubles, put them to bed\r
Burn down the mission, the maps in your head\r
Shot like a bullet, dont know the way\r
The ricochet, kind of got away from you\r
\r
The leaves are falling, the church bells ringing\r
Marching band in a high school dream\r
Little town and a faded beauty\r
They still remember when she was queen\r
\r
Then the road turned into desert everywhere\r
The leaves are falling, the church bells ringing\r
She disappeared, she disappeared
