'I could shoot someone on Fifth Avenue and not lose voters,' says Donald Trump

SIOUX CITY, IOWA — Just when you thought he couldn't say anything more outrageous, presidential hopeful Donald Trump has gone and done it again.
The GOP front-runner has offended everyone from Mexicans to Muslims on the campaign trail with his bombastic style and comments — but this time he's really outdone himself.
Speaking at a rally in Iowa on Saturday, the Donald claimed his supporters are so "smart" and "loyal" that he wouldn't lose any voters even if he shot someone.
"The people, my people are so smart and you know what else they say about my people? The polls say I have the most loyal people," Trump said, in comments reported by Reuters.
"Did you ever see that where I could stand in the middle of Fifth Avenue and shoot somebody and I wouldn't lose any voters OK. It's like incredible."
Asked to clarify what he said during a phone interview with CBS' John Dickerson on Sunday, Trump stood by his comments, stressing how loyal his supporters were and how much he loves them.
So is the Donald just full of hot air? Or is there an element of truth to what he said?
Would he really not lose any support if he decided to crank his "You're fired!" catchphrase up a notch with a Fifth Avenue shooting spree?
