SeaWorld has another dead Commerson's dolphin on their hands

ORLANDO, FLORIDA — SeaWorld has another dead Commerson's dolphin on their hands which is furthering the conversation on whether they should be holding dolphins in captivity at all.

Betsy, rest in peace, died at the mature age of 33 years, just days after she was relocated from SeaWorld San Diego to SeaWorld's Aquatica park in Orlando.

Betsy was one of 12 wild Commerson's dolphins captured by SeaWorld in 1983. Six of the 12 were dead within a year.

Former SeaWorld diver Sarah Fischbeck told to the The Dodo, "In less than 30 years they've killed off 20 Commerson's dolphins. The average lifespan at SeaWorld is 8 years."

Fischbeck also commented on their failed attempts to breed the Commerson's dolphin. "When they'd go to jack them off they'd get urine and semen samples, and the urine would cancel out the semen," she said.
