When the Oscars nominations were announced, one group was clearly missing: actors of color. #OscarsSoWhite started trending on Twitter, and Jada Pinkett Smith and other actors used their voice to call out the issue. Critics responded, attributing a variety of variables as the root of the problem. Despite Golden Globe nominations for Will Smith and Idris Elba, the Academy did not acknowledge these two actor's talent. Others believe it has less to do with the Academy and more to do with the film studios deciding which movies get made.
