As the US car industry gathers for the Detroit Auto Show, there are questions over whether diesel can ever gain ground in the country after the setback of Volkswagen’s emissions test cheating scandal. Diesel cars have never been as popular in the US as they are in Europe, where they account for more than half of new sales.
