Kerry seeks to reassure Japan, S. Korea of US support after North's nuclear test

US Secretary of State John Kerry late Wednesday spoke with his Japanese and South Korean counterparts to assure them of support and allay fears regarding North Korea after its shock announcement of a hydrogen bomb test.
Kerry spoke via phone with Japanese Foreign Minister Kishida and Republic of Korea Foreign Minister Yun, reiterating the steadfast US commitment to the security of both countries and emphasizing the need for a unified international response to the North’s "provocative actions", according to an official press release.
Although officials and experts were highly sceptical of the claim it was a sophisticated H-bomb, the latest test provided unnerving proof of North Korea's commitment to developing an advanced nuclear weapons capability.
