Nadi means flow and shodhana means purification. Prana in Sanskrit means part of the body ayama means stretching. So Nadishodhan Pranayam means purification of the flow of air with the help of stretching the vital energies inside.
Technique :
Children should sit comfortably relaxing the shoulders and by keeping the back straight.
The asana is usually performed by smiling throughout.
The tip of the index and the middle finger should be kept between the eyebrows.
The ring finger and the little finger should be kept on the left nostril.
Hold the right nostril with the thumb.
The ring finger and the little finger usually are used to open or close the left nostril.
The thumb governs the closing and opening of the right nostril.
Keep the thumb on the right nostril and breathe out through the left.
Inhale from the left nostril and then press this slowly with the ring finger and the little finger.
Remove the thumb from the right one and breathe out from this nostril.
Breathe in from the right nostril and exhale from the left one.
Keep up this process of exhalation and inhalation to complete one round of Nadishodhan Pranayam.
