A Jacket Built For The Resort & Backcountry: Outdoor Research White Room [Review]

I fell in love with the Outdoor Research White Room Jacket from the moment I first tried it on. A three layer Gore-Text soft shell, it's at home on the resort as well as in the backcountry.

The White Room Jacket (and pants too) is the first jacket I've felt comfortable wearing in all kinds of ski conditions. It's waterproof for fall and spring skiing, windproof for just about every day at Breckenridge, and it takes every bit of abuse I've thrown at it.

You won't find extra bulk in this jacket though it does use OR's Relaxed fit. That means you probably won't see kids in the park wearing it but it also won't make you look like you're about to tackle the Haute Route.

When I'm running fast and trying to shoot pictures I often work up a sweat. It's easy dump that heat in the White Room by opening the Chest-to-Hip zippers. I prefer this setup over pit-zips because they seem easier to operate, especially while wearing a backpack, and I'm able to regulate heat better.

As you'll see in the video, I love the powder skirt. It's the first I've worn that actually does a great job keeping snow out of my pants.

The hood is incredible. I'm a pretty big hood snob and I appreciate a good one when I see it. While roomy enough to fit over my bulky ski helmet, it also does a great job blocking the snow and wind when I'm skinning up without one.

There's plenty to like about the White Room Jacket and I'll be wearing it for many seasons to come.
