MEDELLIN, COLOMBIA — Video of paragliding students strapping a scared and helpless pig into a tandem glider made the rounds online this past week, but it hasn't been received well by animal activists.
In the video, a man is harnessed into a glider, while a group of his peers work together to secure a full-grown hog in front of him. The pig struggles and kicks to no mercy, until the moment the group grabs its legs and quickly throws the paraglider up into the sky. The people in the group can be heard laughing hysterically in the background.
Juan Guillermo Paramo, director of local animal rights group AnimaNaturalis, has stated his team will be investigating which paragliding school was responsible for the act of animal cruelty, as well as tracking down the mean-spirited people involved in the stunt.
If convicted of animal abuse in Colombia, the perpetrators could face up to three years in prison and a fine of more than 32 million Colombian pesos ($9,614 US).
