Argentina: Protests in Plaza de Mayo Defend Press Freedom

Journalists and citizens in Buenos Aires are rejecting President Mauricio Macri’s stated intention to revoke the existing Media Law, as they gather in the Plaza de Mayo to defend press freedoms gained in recent years. Macri has transferred the Federal Authority for Audiovisual Communications Services to the new Ministry of Communications in order to place limits on the current law. The Media Law was promoted and passed during the Fernandez administration after social movements pushed for a less concentrated media landscape and wider view in coverage. teleSUR
