Honduras: 4 Massacres in 3 Days Raise Specter of Death Squads

Honduras is again awash in violence and killings, with 25 dead in four massacres in the past three days. In the last 12 months the number of massacres has reached 95, higher than in the past. Concern has been raised that killings could be the work of death squads linked to the police and military. The government says it has no knowledge of death squads and is doing its best to prevent such killings, but the opposition charges that such declarations are merely for media consumption.
