Suicide belt found similar to explosives used in Paris attacks, could be linked to Salah Abdeslam

PARIS — French officials have discovered explosives in a town south of Paris that may be linked to the attacks that killed 130 people in the city on November 13.

AFP reports that ten days after the deadly attack on the French capital, a street cleaner found what appeared to be an explosive belt inside a dustbin in the southern Paris suburb of Montrouge.

According to the New York Daily News, the belt, which was found missing its detonator, was similar to the suicide vests used by the Paris attackers that contained bolts and the explosive TATP, or triacetone triperoxide.

Authorities suspect the belt may be linked to fugitive Salah Abdeslam, whose cellphone signal was traced to nearby Chatillon on the November 13 attacks. The phone was detected near an abandoned Renault Clio that he had rented, leading to speculation that there had been a failed or aborted attack on the 18th arrondissement, reports Reuters.

Police are still on a manhunt to find Abdeslam, who is believed to be in Belgium. His brother, Brahim Abdeslam, was one of the suicide bombers in the Paris terror attacks.
