E krijuar ne vitin 1966, asokohe me emrin "Instituti i Larte i Arteve" e me pas Akademia, ndërsa sot Universiteti, mbushi këtë te enjte 45 vjet nga themelimi.
Rreth 5 mije studente te diplomuar është numri i artisteve qe kane dale nga kjo shkolle, e cila aktualisht ka 947 studente e 119 pedagoge te ndihmuar nga rreth 280 asistente. Por, pavarësisht degëve te ndryshme, ne artin skenik, figurativ apo muzike vështirësitë për te gjetur pune nga studentet e diplomuar janë te shumta. Ndaj, edhe pse jo drejtpërdrejt duke iu referuar këtij fakti, kryeministri Berisha, i pranishëm ne përvjetor, iu beri thirrje bashkive te vendit te afroje punën e këtyre artisteve te rinj, por edhe mistrisë se arsimit, e cila sipas Berishës duhet te japë bursa për studentet me talent, qe nuk përballojnë dot studimet. Festimi i 45-vjetorit, i cili nisi me koncerte, ekspozita dhe do te vijoje me shfaqje teatrale, vlerësoi me çmimin e mirënjohjes edhe 16 pedagoge te universitet e arteve, emra te njohur te teatrit, muzikës apo pikturës, trofe qe u dorëzuan nga rektori i Universitetit, Petrit Malaj. 45-vjetori i asaj çka te gjithë e njohin si akademia, pavarësisht ndryshimit te emrit, solli edhe emetimin e një pulle poste te pare e cila feston pikërisht këtë përvjetor.
