Rajoni i Fierit cilësohet nder te paret ne shkalle vendi, sa i përket sëmundjeve qe vijnë nga ndotja e ambientit.
Mjeket fierake japin alarmin se këto sëmundje kane nisur te shtohen ne mase, madje jo vetëm tek naftëtarët, por edhe banoret e zonave naftëmbajtëse. Agim Islami, 53 vjeç, ka punuar prej me se 30 vjetësh ne sektorin e nxjerrjes se naftës ne Marinez. Tashme ai ka përfituar statusin e invalidit për shkak te problemeve te shumta qe i ka shkaktuar nafta ne gjak. Vetëm vitin e fundit 150 naftëtarë i janë shtuar listës se personave me aftësi te kufizuara qe trajtohen nga zyra e shërbimeve sociale ne Fier. Numri me i madh i invalidëve te punës rezulton nga Patosi dhe Sheqishte-Marinza. Banoret e këtyre zonave ankohen se kane te paktën nga një person te sëmurë ne familje, përfshirë edhe fëmijë. Aktualisht, ne qarkun e Fierit numërohen 4626 persona qe trajtohen si invalidë nga niveli i larte i ndotjes. Banore te zonave naftëmbajtëse ne Fier kane dale vazhdimisht ne protesta, duke kërkuar marrjen e masave për te shmangur te paktën rrjedhjen e serrës ne tokat e tyre bujqësore.
