Le lac Nasser constitue un réservoir de 162 milliards de m³ (soit 162 km³) d'eau en plein désert de haute Égypte.
Créé à l'issue de la construction du barrage d’Assouan, entre 1958 et 1970, il est alimenté par les eaux du seul Nil.
Lors de sa construction, plusieurs milliers de villages nubiens furent évacués. Une centaine de milliers de Nubiens ont « bien voulu » sacrifier leur terre ancestrale pour le bien de tous les Égyptiens. Ce travail est une manière de leur dire : « Merci ».

Lake Nasser represents a 162-billion-m³ water reservoir (that is to say 162 km³) in the middle of the desert in Upper Egypt.
It was created as a result of the construction of the Aswan High Dam, between 1958 and 1970, and all of its water comes from the Nile.
When it was under construction, thousands of Nubian villages had to be evacuated. About a hundred thousand Nubians “agreed” to sacrifice their ancestral land for the good of all Egyptians. This work is a way of thanking them.
