"One World, One Media" : International media conference opens
The three-day International Media Conference, titled ‘One World, One Media’, was inaugurated by Sindh Governor Dr Ishrat Ul Ebad Khan.
The conference is organized by Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) in collaboration with International Union of Journalists (IUJ).
Delegates from a number of countries – including the US, Britain, Canada, Saudi Arabia, Belgium, India, Iran, Kuwait and Afghanistan – are participating in the conference. IUJ President Jin Boumelha and Secretary-General Anthony Bellanger are also attending the event, which is the first of its kind in Pakistan as well as South Asia.
The former president, Asif Ali Zardari, diplomats of the US, Britain, Canada, Saudi Arabia and other countries, the heads of political parties, leading businessmen, journalists, educationists and elite were among other attendees of the inaugural session. Prior to the inaugural, the foreign and local guests visited the mausoleum of the founder of nation, Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah.
In the conference there will be a total of 16 sessions, where topics – like media’s role in democracy and conflicts, role of civil society and its uses and abuses in media, embedded journalism, concentration of media ownership, global terrorism and role of media etc – will be discussed.
The conference will be attended by a number of foreign media professionals.
These include New York’s National Writers Union’s Laurence Gold Better, the CWA president Martin O Hanlon, Kenya Correspondents Association Chairman William Oloo, Chaudhry Rizwan and Daifallah Alharthi from Saudi Arabia, Schave De Roz Ario from Malaysia, Syed Qamar Abbas Jafri from Washington-DC, Devullapali Amar from India, Mohamamed Raza Manafi from Iran, Sabina Inderjit from India, Konstantinos Konstantinou from Cyprus, Hussain Ali from Afghanistan.
Senior Pakistani journalists –Ayaz Khan, Salim Bokhari, Arif Nizami, Rahimullah Yousufzai, Saleem Safi, Sami Ibrahim and others – wills also participate, and present their papers during various sessions of the conference.
