Seven pounds of cocaine found in flight attendant's underwear in Florida

FORT LAUDERDALE, FLORIDA — Smuggling cocaine is a (bad) career choice that demands nerves of steel. Rohan Myers, 39, has no such nerves. In federal court on Wednesday October 28, 2015, Myers admitted to attempting to smuggle nearly seven pounds of cocaine into a Florida airport concealed in his spandex underwear.

Myers, a flight attendant for Caribbean Airlines, arrived at Fort Lauderdale International Airport from Montego Bay, Jamaica on September 8.

As U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers were searching his belongings, reports say Myers began sweating "profusely" while also appearing extremely nervous and agitated. This prompted officers to pull him aside, and as they searched his bags more thoroughly, Myers cracked reportedly telling officers, "I have cocaine on me; I'm supposed to take it to the hotel."

A strip search revealed four packets of cocaine that had been duct taped to his legs underneath a pair of long spandex underwear. The packets contained close to seven pounds of the illegal narcotic.

Myers told authorities it was his first attempt to illegally import drugs and that an individual in Jamaica had promised to pay him US$10,000 for his efforts. Myers is currently in jail awaiting sentencing in January, with local newspapers reporting he is expected to serve approximately three years in a federal prison.
As a Jamaican national, reports say Myers will likely be deported from the U.S. upon finishing his prison term.
