Argentinian man devours appetizers and ends up with toothpick stuck in his heart

BUENOS AIRES — Surgeons in Buenos Aires were shocked to discover a toothpick lodged inside the heart of a middle-aged man complaining of stabbing chest pains, according to a report by Britain's the Daily Mirror.
Horacio Rodriguez went to seek help when he first began suffering from chest pains. Misdiagnosis after misdiagnosis, however, led to repeated hospital visits over a six month period.
Doctors initially said he had pneumonia, but when his symptoms began to get worse and included weight loss, more severe chest pains and his coughing up blood, he was told he had a heart infection and was given antibiotics.
It wasn't until surgeons got a closer look at him as part of a seven-hour heart operation that they discovered that the months of agony were caused by a toothpick lodged in his heart.
“First we took the blood out of his heart and then we saw it clearly," said Fernando Cichero, a heart specialist at Buenos Aires' Hospital Fernandez, according to the Mirror. "It was a toothpick. Nobody could believe it at first. I’ve discussed it with colleagues in Argentina and other countries and no-one’s ever heard or seen anything like it before."
While Rodriguez said he couldn't remember having ever swallowed the wooden stick, he did apparently, laughing, cop to the fact that he at one point, at the end of 2014, scarfed down a ton of appetizers.
Despite his foolish lack of awareness Rodriguez luckily survived the ordeal and, according to doctors, should soon be back in tip-top shape after he gets some rest.
“Perhaps the next time I eat salami or cheese I’ll make sure they’ve got little flags attached to them so I can see them,” said Rodriguez.
