AIKEN, SOUTH CAROLINA — A South Carolina man allegedly decapitated a 2-week-old puppy in front of his girlfriend and her two young children.
The incident took place after the man, identified as 25-year-old James Xavier Quattlebaum, reportedly arrived home on Kershaw Street in Aiken after taking drugs on early Saturday morning, WJBF reported.
Quattlebaum had an argument with his 37-year-old girlfriend Tarsha Hankinson before he decided to decapitate one of their puppies with a large kitchen knife in front of her and her two children, who are 7 and 10 years old.
"No no no no no no no. You don't get over nothing like that. See all that blood and the dog decapitated in front of you? You don't get over that," Neighbour Mary Ella Byrd told WRDW.
Hankinson managed to call the police when Quattlebaum threw the puppy's dead body away. Quattlebaum was very resistive during arrest. He kicked the door of the patrol car as officers were trying to transport him. He also spat on one of the officers' faces when they hobbled him.
Quattlebaum has been charged with ill treatment of animals, two counts of unlawful conduct towards a child, and throwing bodily fluids at an officer.
