Colombia: No Grounds for Accusations Against Cepeda

Social movements and political leaders are protesting the latest retaliatory measure by Colombia’s Inspector General against Senator Ivan Cepeda for allegedly overstepping his jurisdiction in investigating ex President Alvaro Uribe’s ties to paramilitary groups. Critics charge that this is an attempt to silence the truth about State crimes and paramilitary activities. The Inspector General has accused Cepeda of offering money to imprisoned paramilitaries in exchange for their testimony against Uribe, but Cepeda says there are no grounds for the charges.
