Saint Lucia – Efforts Underway to Get Rid of Sargassum Seaweed

Countries in the English speaking Caribbean have been receiving poor international tourism reviews as their beaches continue to be invaded by massive amounts of sargassum seaweed. It is also a problem for farmers and a nuisance for residents due to its unbearable stench. Sargassum has been a problem for many years, but with climate changes, the amounts and frequency have skyrocketed. Saint Lucia is trying to get rid as much of this seaweed as possible. In Dennery South, for example, community groups are devising innovate methods for doing this, such as digging deep holes and burying it. Alison Kentish reports for teleSUR
