Peruvian Left Holds Presidential Primary Elections

For the first time in Peruvian history, voters went to the polls in primary elections to select a party's candidate. On Sunday, 30,000 voters cast ballots to chose the candidate of the Broad Front, a left-wing coalition, for next April's presidential election. The primary election itself, in which participation exceeded expectations, was viewed as an important exercise in democracy. Of the seven candidates, Veronika Mendoza and Marco Arana are the two front-runners. Rael Mora reports from Lima. teleSUR
