On Monday night President Nicolas Maduro met in Harlem with leaders of the Black community to discuss police brutality and structural racism. In a well-received speech, he spoke of the need for a new, radical humanistic consciousness in order to combat racial inequality. Opal Tometi, a co founder of Black Lives Matter was heartened to see a head of state stand alongside oppressed people and Black people all across the globe, while Ramona Africa of the MOVE organization found it refreshing and highly unusual to hear a national leader speak in such terms in the United States. teleSUR
