Netherlands: ICJ to Rule on Dispute Between Nicaragua and Colombia

On the heels of the International Court of Justice ruling that it does have jurisdiction over Bolivia’s claim to sea access, the Court will hear a new dispute. This time it is Nicaragua that claims a breach of its maritime rights in the Caribbean by Colombia, while Colombia claims that the ICJ at The Hague does not have jurisdiction over the matter. After an eleven-year trial, the Court confirmed Colombia’s sovereignty over the San Andreas Archipelago, but gave Nicaragua a wide region in the Caribbean. Colombia considered the ruling “non applicable,” while Nigaragua has presented two appeals. teleSUR
