In Colombia, indigenous leader Feliciano Valencia has been captured and sentenced to 16 years in prison. The move has triggered widespread outrage among Colombia’s indigenous communities and organizations. Previously acquitted of kidnapping, the renowned indigenous leader was recently brought up on the same charges. They stem from a 2008 case involving an indigenous member of the military who was detained and prosecuted under special indigenous jurisdiction for attempting to infiltrate the social movement.
