The Château de Chambord is a french Castle located in the municipality of Chambord, in the département of Loir-et-Cher in the region Centre-Val de Loire.


Built in the heart of the largest enclosed forest park of Europe (about 50 km2 surrounded by a 32 km long wall), it is the largest of the Loire castles. It boasts a garden accreditation and a hunting classified monuments historiquesB Park 1.


The site initially hosted a motte Feodaleb 2, as well as the old Castle of the counts of Blois. The origin of the current castle dates back to the 16th century and the reign of the King of France Francis I who oversees its construction from 1519 B 3.


The Castle and estate had been granted several awards: inclusion in the world heritage of the United Nations for education, science and culture (UNESCO) in 19812. ranking since 2000 in the area of classification of the natural region of the Val de Loire between Sully and Chalonnes-sur-Loire3 as well as in the Natura 2000 network in 2006. It is also ranked on the first French list of historical monuments in 1840 B 4, is recognized public establishment of industrial and commercial nature (EPIC) since 2005 d 1 and is one of the components of the network
