** After baking/frying the marbles they may break if dropped onto a hard surface like a tile floor. These are not suitable toys for young children actually marbles in general baked or not can be a choking hazard for very small kids. This is not something children should do without close adult supervision***
** It is probably a good idea to safety goggles when taking these out of the oven and putting them into the water.
After looking for and digging out my son's marble collection when making the shamrock cupcakes, they reminded me of a craft I used to make when I was a kid when the Earth was young and dinosaurs still ruled the land
I did this a few times when I was a youngster. I used to get a small craft magazine whose name escapes me at this moment and found the idea there about 35 or so years ago. It may be on Pinterest now, but it has been around a LONG time.
1 cup marbles quantity is up to you really clear glass marbles work the best
pie plate or other oven proof dish/pan
Large bowl of ice water
Put your marbles into a pie plate and place the plate into a preheated 500 F oven for twenty minutes.
When I was a little girl I used to do this in a cast iron skillet over high heat on the stove that's where the "fried" part of "fried marbles" comes from. I find the oven method much safer. If you want to use a skillet there are instructions aplenty on the interwebs.
Prepare a large bowl of very cold water and add a few ice cubes.
Pour the heated marbles all at once into the cold water and wait a few minutes to allow marbles to cool enough to handle.
Drain, dry and enjoy!
***NOTES*****
I had one marble that broke into pieces in the oven, this MAY happen, so be careful when you are taking the marbles out of the water, there may be pieces of glass in the water.
