Venezuelan Foreign Minister Delcy Rodriguez discussed the issue of the border closure with Colombia at the United Nations on Thursday. She explained that the step was taken in order to combat smuggling and paramilitary activity in the area. She reported that 5.6 million Colombians live in Venezuelaand that most have come to escape violence and poverty. This year 130,000 Colombians have entered Venezuela --approximately the same number that has shocked the world in the Mediterranean crisis and the massive exodus to Europe. teleSUR
