BLACKOUT SCAPE
The corrugated cardboard artist Roh Sang-jun recently held his solo exhibition at Gana Art Center. His artistry with paper began back in 2005 when the artist studied abroad. Due to immense homesick, Roh found the paper or boxes covering the presents from his friends equally precious, and that eventually led him to actually make art pieces with it. Roh first put together pieces of paper and boxes and colored them to create cars and humans. He then attached a piece of colored corrugated cardboard to canvas and placed the paper sculptures to create a sculptural flat painting. Recently, the artist expanded the ambiguity of landscapes into the far-off universe. Through his unusual perspective, the world becomes as small as a dot, and then it becomes another world. Beyond the familiar scenes, Roh takes the audience to an imaginary world.
