Ecuador: Opposition Numbers Dwindling

After last week’s call for a strike proved unsuccessful, protests continue in Ecuador. More than 60 opposition protesters have been arrested on charges of injuring 120 police officers and soldiers. Thirty members of the armed forces are now being held hostage in the Tungurahua Province. The Confederation of Indigenous Nationalities of Ecuador (Conaie) has called an assembly on Friday afternoon in Quito to be followed by a march.
