Occupy Dataran: The sit-in goes on - a lulll before the storm?

The anti-PTPTN students have been standing firm on the grounds that they have every right to hold their sit-in protest at Dataran Merdeka.

This is their fourth day, which has been trouble-free even though City Council officers and police are nearby occasionally moving in to make their presence felt.

Tonight the students and their supporters have continued with their programmes; they had national laureate A Samad Said recite his poems and later law professor Azmi Shahrom gave a lecture on Article 153 of the Federal Constitution.

Article 153 refers to the position of the Malays and the natives of Sabah and Sarawak and the other ethnic communities of Malaysia.

Earlier, Deputy Higher Education Minister Saifuddin Abdullah advised the students to end their protest out of respect for the Yang di-Pertuan Agong. The King would be in attendance at a Royal Concert on April 21 at Dataran Merdeka to mark his recent coronation.

Saifuddin in his statement said that it is their right to demonstrate even though he didn't agree with their demands to end the education loan policy.

We ask one of the student leaders Haziq Abdul Aziz secretary of Solidarity Mahasiswa Malaysia to comment on the deputy minister's statement.
