Katchafire are bringing the New Zealand reggae scene to Rototom Sunsplash! The intent of the most prominent reggae band from New Zealand is to mix the traditional sounds of reggae with the musical influences of their homeland, particularly the Maori sound, to create a music that promotes cross-cultural and cross-generational exchanges and has a beneficial power for the souls of their listeners, both at home and abroad.
Katchafire have come a long way from their beginnings as a backing band, and are very well known in New Zealand, and in addition to their numerous national tours regularly perform abroad, particularly in the Fiji Islands, New Caledonia and Hawai, as well as having done various tours in Europe and Australia. Their latest two albums, “Say What You’re Thinking” and “On the Road Again” topped the charts in their country.
They have had the honour of opening for artists such as The Wailers, Damian Marley, Third World, Alpha Blondy and many others. Last year their label Greensleeves did a global release of their greatest hits compilation “The Best so Far”.
