California Child Contracts Plague In Yosemite National Park

A child camping with family in Yosemite National Park in mid-July contracted the plague—an extremely rare disease spread by fleas and rodents which could be fatal if left untreated. The child is recovering while officials are urging campers to exercise caution.

A child in California has fallen ill with plague after camping in Yosemite National Park in July. 

According to California State health officials, the child is recovering. His family members have not showed any symptoms but are being monitored for signs of infection.  Additionally, officials are conducting an environmental evaluation of the areas where the family was known to have been camping.
