1988 Destro & Despoiler (Iron Grenadiers) G.I. Joe review

This is a review of the second version of Destro (part of the Iron Grenadiers sub-line) and his small attack craft; the Despoiler. First available in 1988 and re-released in 1989 by Hasbro, this was the only version of Destro in the vintage line to have a gold head. It is not mentioned in the comics, cartoon or on the filecard why he chose gold for his Iron Grenadiers uniform, over his iconic silver. There is a variation in the Despoiler: early versions use a yellow-gold plastic and later versions use a caramel-gold plastic. It is speculated the yellow-gold becomes brittle faster over time versus the other color. ***The Battle Force 2000 logo on all 1988 Iron Grenadiers packaging is never explained. The 1988 introduction commercial even featured a battle with BF2000 vehicles, but weren't emphasized as the sole rival. Most collectors assume that this was a marketing scheme (sub-line vs. sub-line) that was dropped at the last minute.***
