IMF open to 3rd Greece bailout, but must be 'complete' package - Lagarde

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has confirmed that it could participate in a third bailout for Greece, as long as the terms are right.

The Fund would be open to participating in a “complete” package for Greece, IMF Managing Director Christine Lagarde told French broadcaster Europe 1 on Friday.

“This complete package has two legs, a Greek leg that entails an in-depth reform of the Greek economy,” Lagarde said.

“The second leg is that of the lenders, which entails supplying financing and restructuring the debt to ease its burden.”

Lagarde’s words came two days after the IMF criticised the deal offered to Athens by the eurozone to kick-start bailout talks.

The Fund has insisted that a new bailout must include measures to restructure the country’s debt.

Athens has already missed two IMF debt interest payments, totalling around 1.6 billion euros.
