Originally from Baja, Southern Hungary, Benedek Szabó had to wait until the great
Hungarian lo-fi boom of 2011 to propel his noise pop project Zombie Girlfriend towards success – and a couple of gigs abroad. Embracing his Hungarian singer-songwriter roots, Szabó released his first solo album Kapuzárási Piknik (Torschlusspicnic) on his 26th birthday in the Spring of 2013, followed by A legszebb éveink (The Years Of Our Lives) this April. These records embody the essence of the generational genre, documenting the fears, doubts and desires of today’s twentysomethings, accompanied by music that just as easily recalls the works of late great Hungarian singer-songwriter Tamás Cseh as Neutral Milk Hotel. During live performances the jangly yet unnervingly wavering songs are performed by Szabó Benedek és a Galaxisok (Benedek Szabó and the Galaxies) consisting of Szabó, Soma Bradák, László Sallai and Ákos Günsberger.
