Boston bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev to be formally sentenced to death

Boston Marathon bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev will be formally sentenced to death on Wednesday by a judge after a federal jury voted last month to impose capital punishment.

The 21-year-old carried out the attack with his older brother, who died while fleeing police.

The former college student will have the right to speak although he did not testify during his trial, showing no emotion as survivors and families of the dead gave harrowing accounts of their experiences when the bombs went off.

Some described being hurled through the air when the bombs went off; others how they tried to save the lives of the injured.

They too will be able to make statements at the hearing, including the family of police officer Sean Collier, who was shot dead three days later.
