Three killed as Austrian ploughs car into crowd

A man has deliberately driven a 4×4 into a crowd of shoppers in Austria on Saturday, killing three people and injuring dozens of others.

A four-year-old boy was among the victims of the attack which took place in the country’s second largest city, Graz.

Ten people are reported to be in a serious condition.

Reports suggest the car sped through two historic streets at a speed of over 100 kilometres per hour.

One witness said the man was laughing as he carried out the attack while others described how several people were sent flying over the vehicle.

Police have ruled out terrorism and local media reported that the perpetrator was recently estranged from his wife.

The Austria Press Agency cited a police source as saying the driver showed symptoms of “psychosis”.

The man – an Austrian with Bosnian roots – has been arrested.
