Swiss police have arrested a number of Fifa executives following a morning raid on a five-star hotel in Zurich.

The arrests were made at the request of the US justice department, according to reports.

World football’s governing body were meeting at the hotel to elect a new president.

An FBI investigation into Fifa activities has been ongoing since 2011.

It is suggested the US intends to seek to extradite the individuals to face federal corruption charges.
