Interviews from Mexico - Human Trafficking

Interviews from Mexico, hosted by Laura Carlsen, goes straight to the source -- the men and women making news and making history in Mexico and throughout the region. Today Carlsen looks at the crime of human trafficking, a multi-billion dollar business that competes with drug and arms trafficking. And to do this she interviews the authors of a new book on the subject, as well as the mother of a victim of trafficking. Carolina Hernandez relates her own heartbreaking experience of the disappearance and sale of her young daughter, and journalists Alejandra del Castillo and Analia Ferreyra give a preview of their book, “It Won’t Happen to Me. ” It includes eighteen stories that portray different forms of trafficking, including sexual exploitation, the use of minors in criminal acts, bio-medical experimentation, forced labor, child pornography and forced marriage, among others. In it, the authors outline common methods used to locate the girls, make them fall in love, transport them and exploit them. Despite the painful emotional impact of engaging in the interviews and reporting the experiences of the victims, they hope these stories will serve as a warning to parents and help to prevent further trafficking. teleSUR
