Guatemala: Huge Rally Demands President's Resignation

Over 20,000 protesters rallied in Guatemala City over the weekend to demand the immediate resignation of President Otto Perez Molina in the country's year-long and ongoing corruption scandal involving revenue from customs duties. Last week the Vice President Roxana Baldetti was forced to resign due to her involvement in the scandal. An estimated US$7 million per week was allegedly siphoned off customs duty payments. Given the grass roots outage over the allegations, it is likely that the fallout from the scandal will be felt in the country's upcoming elections, with voters' punishing the ruling party.
