Two men have been arrested in connection with an explosion at a Barisan Nasional party operations centre in Taman Jawi Jaya on Tuesday. Police say the suspects, aged 25 and 30, were arrested at two separate locations last night and early this morning.
The explosion occurred as state Gerakan chairman Datuk Dr Teng Hock Nan was delivering a speech before an audience of more than 2,000 people. A second device was found in the same area and was detonated by police.
Police said the bombs were improvised explosive device without shrapnel and were made by professionals. They believe the aim of the explosion was to trigger panic among the crowd, rather than causing any physical harm to people.
