Baby girl with hydrocephalus undergoes skull remodelling operation

An Indian baby whose head swelled to almost three times its normal size successfully underwent a second round of reconstructive surgery on June 28 to correct her skull.
Roona Begum was born with hydrocephalus, a condition in which an abnormal amount of fluid collects in the brain. Roona's condition had caused her head to swell to a circumference of 94 centimetres. Her head shrunk to about 60 centimetres after procedures conducted in May and is expected to shrink further after the latest operation.
Hydrocephalus is an abnormal expansion of ventricles within the brain due to an abnormally large accumulation of cerebrospinal fluid.
This animation illustrates two types of hydrocephalus that commonly occur in children and adults: communicating and noncommunicating hydrocephalus.
