Japanese superhero helps elderly enter the subway

A real life Japanese superhero wearing a green outfit and mask has taken to the subways of Tokyo, helping old ladies and the elderly down the stairs.

Tadahiro Kanemasu, a 27-year-old slender samaritan, dons a green Power Rangers outfit he bought at a discount store for $41. He spends his days helping those in need down to the subway platform, when he is not busy at his day job working as a greengrocer.

"Japanese people find it hard to accept help, they feel obligated to the other person, so the mask really helps me out," he told Reuters, adding that he chose the color green for his costume because of his job selling vegetables.

He also said he has had a few requests from others to participate in pink and red costumes. His hope is to expand his helper's hand program throughout Tokyo, a city known to have difficult staircases.

"When I first began, people basically said, 'Get away from me, you weirdo,'" he said. "Now they still think I'm weird but in a good way."
