Miley Cyrus wrecking ball: yet another reason to not talk about Syria

The Miley Cyrus Wrecking Ball video has earned the most views on Vevo in a 24-hour period, clocking in with 12.3 million views.

This comes as a recent study from Outbrain revealed some troubling but not surprising insights about the state of public affairs and discourse in American society: more people clicked on links about Miley Cyrus and her VMA performance than they did on links to stories about Syria. In fact, links to Miley Cyrus content were clicked 12 times more often.

So if it's Miley Cyrus you want, it's Miley Cyrus you get. In this video, we break down the video into its essential components and offer our breathless commentary.

But if you must know about Syria, here is the low-down:

After drawing a red line in the sand over the Syrian regime's use of chemical weapons against its own people, President Barack Obama might not bomb the country after all.

The sudden turnabout came after Secretary of State John Kerry made a verbal gaffe in a throwaway line to a reporter. Kerry said a strike on Syria could be re-considered if Assad turns over his chemical weapons.

Well, the Russians thought that was a good idea and now it looks as though Assad might agree.

Most Americans don't support attacking Syria anyway. Launching an attack would tip the balance in favor of a fragmented group of rebels, some of whom are aligned with Al Qaeda.

In fact, some rebels are threatening Syria's Christian minority with death if they don't convert to Islam. Something to think about while you are watching Miley.
