YouTube censorship? Wild Games Studio accused of blocking negative video review

Game developer Wild Games Studio is in crisis mode after using YouTube's copyright complaint system to remove an unfavorable review.

Game reviewer TotalBiscuit aka The Cynical Brit posted a negative review of the Wild Games Studio's newest release, "Day One: Garry's Incident" to YouTube. In the 21-minute review, he said the game "just runs awfully... The combat is so incredibly bad. It's mind-boggling awful... This is the definition of terrible."

Wild Games Studio promptly initiated a copyright claim on YouTube against the negative review. This is serious to the YouTube content creator, as a channel can be shut down if it accumulates three copyright strikes.

The incident has now turned into an internet war.

TotalBiscuit tweeted: "I should point out that this is a game I was sent review code for, it was also the top-ranked video on YouTube for that game."

Wild Games Studios responded in defense of their action: "We protected our copyright because TotalBiscuit has no right to make advertising revenues with our license."

TotalBiscuit's response to the response? He tweeted: "BULLLLSHITTTTT."

Meanwhile, other reviews of the same game are still live on YouTube.

TotalBiscuit posted a new video on Sunday detailing his frustration with the game developer. He posted their original correspondence, the copyright disputes, lays out exactly why he should be protected by Fair Use, and makes a case for the alleged abuse of the YouTube system by Wild Games Studios. That video is now the #1 video relating to the game.

The original video has been copied and uploaded by another user on DailyMotion.
