Boat fail: A houseboat ran aground near Aqua City on Odaiba, an artificial island in Tokyo Bay, after striking a warning sign for shallow water.

The Japanese Third Regional Coast Guard headquarters was alerted to the incident on Saturday at 7:10 p.m. when it received a report that the houseboat, the Fujiokamaru No. 1, was on the verge of sinking after it had driven onto something and was taking on water.

The houseboat had 22 passengers and staff on board and had been traveling through the inner section of the bay around Aqua City Odaiba when it struck a warning post for shallow water and ran aground.

Among the 22 people on board, 19 were rescued by another houseboat. The other three were picked up by a fireboat. Everyone escaped without injuries. Police are investigating the cause of the accident.
