Weight loss pills paralyze woman, doctors prosecuted

A 31-year old Indonesian woman in Taipei fell into a coma in 2010 after reportedly taking weight-loss pills over almost five years. The cause of her coma was reportedly hypolakemia which led to her sudden collapse one night after dinner. Two doctors, Liu Quan Neng (劉全能) and Chen Yan Hua (陳燕華) now face charges of negligence after prosecutors determined the woman's medication was prescribed without a thorough examination. The defendants could face three years in prison.

The woman is currently being cared for in Indonesia, and the two doctors remain on post. The New Taipei Health Department is keeping track of the case.
