A stressed Japanese teacher stands accused of setting fire to a staff room

A 22-year-old Japanese elementary school teacher in Kota-cho Aichi was arrested for setting fire to the staff room on Monday, his second such crime this school year. The teacher, Kousuke Arai stands accused of stealing purses in a sports club, sending threatening letters to members of the school board and obstruction of justice. He started at the school as a 4th grade teacher last April.

Arai was also charged in September with sprinkling lighter fluid on the floor of a staff room and setting a match to it. He is also suspected of breaking thirteen laptops by throwing them into the school's swimming pool. He confessed to all charges during questioning, saying that he set fire to the school property for reasons of stress.
